On the other hand, it points to stubbornness, caution, and sometimes to a person who is either ignorant and headstrong or deeply faithful and sound. The details of the dream, especially the goat’s sex, age, and what happens to it, shape the message.

Seeing a Goat

Simply seeing a goat in a dream is generally read as a promise that your desires will be fulfilled. Many interpreters also link the goat to a stubborn streak in your own character, which need not be negative: it can mean you have the determination to carry a task through to the end. Older commentators disagreed about what the goat represents as a person. Some said it stands for an ignorant, obstinate, foolish individual, while others saw it as a person of complete religious faith and solid character. A goat can also appear as a well-meaning but suspicious and contrary friend, and it has been called an animal that announces good weather.

A Female Goat

A female goat in a dream is usually taken to symbolise a woman, a child, property, or agriculture. If you find a female goat or receive one as a gift, the dream is often read as marriage. If you see the female goat leaving the house, this may point to divorce or separation from a wife. Milking a female goat and drinking the milk can mean that you will gain income through a woman. Slaughtering a female goat and eating its flesh suggests that your wish will be granted through a woman, though slaughtering it simply for meat is said to warn that you may marry a woman but receive no good from her.

A Billy Goat or a Kid

If you see yourself milking a female goat and then drinking the milk, some commentators say you will obtain profit from a woman.

Eating and Tasting Goat Meat

Eating goat meat in a dream can have several readings. One tradition holds that you will face great hardship, but after those difficulties you will acquire lawful wealth. Another says that eating the meat of a female goat means you will fall ill but recover quickly. The taste matters: if the meat is delicious, it is a good omen; if it is bitter or unpleasant, expect trouble.
